Photo Therapy
Elevating the Mind and Soul Through Photography
Phototherapy techniques can be utilised in a variety of mental health settings. In my practice, I implement five basic techniques outlined by Judy Weiser:
- Photos taken of the client
- Photos taken by the client
- Self-portraits
- Using family albums and photos for biographical work
- Photo projection, which involves individuals projecting their own meanings onto an image
Additionally, I incorporate talking picture cards (using the photo projection technique), photo collages, and mindful photography walks. These walks encourage individuals to slow down, remain present, and observe their surroundings.
Phototherapy techniques can support individuals dealing with a range of mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, personality disorders, grief and bereavement, and addiction recovery.
A person can explore their inner experiences and find new perspectives on their journey of recovery from trauma.
Workshops within Mental Health
I am available to facilitate Photo Therapy group workshops across a variety of mental health settings. These sessions use the creative process of photography as a therapeutic tool to promote self-expression, personal insight, and emotional well-being.
I welcome the opportunity to discuss how this program can be tailored to support your clients, helping them explore their stories, strengthen their sense of identity, and discover renewed purpose through creative engagement.
